“FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD”

Once upon a time there was the little town of Bongo. For the folk who lived there, life was simple, the food was home-cooked and progress was made at a leisurely pace. Not too far away was Funky Town. Here, the lifestyle was different. Fast food, fashion, mass media and development ruled. The important people of Funky Town were looking at new ways to expand their businesses. What better place, than Bongo.

So began the quest to “up-market” Bongo. Some folk loved the changes while others, were not convinced. For entrepreneur, Madame Sleek, and her developer, Big Jimmy, the plan was perfect. Establish the fast foods, flood the mass media with “the look” and bring in the health and fitness industry to complete the cycle. The changes, however, did not impress Tilly, Bess and Bertie. Tilly, especially, worried about the effects these developments were having not only on her town but also on her friends.

Through Bertie’s strange phone connection Tilly enlisted the help of some very interesting super-heroes. Could they foil Madame Sleek or will Bongo become another Funky Town. In the end it is a choice of “lifestyle”.

“Food Glorious Food” is a fast-moving show with lots of fun, comedy and an array of dance styles. The show is suitable for all ages, from the very young to the “young at heart”. The theme of the show is about “lifestyles”. We encourage the audience to think about what is important to them, their town and their style of living.

Our aim was to write a fun play that combined food and super-heroes. The story developed initially from the imagination of Clea. She inspired the show by writing about the quaint little town of Bongo and her singing of “Shoo-Fly Pie” presented the contrast between a simple home-loving lifestyle and the frenzied aspects of modern city living.

Think a little, laugh a lot and enjoy the show.
